How Big Ideas Converge at Rutgers University–New Brunswick

Dear Members of the Rutgers University–New Brunswick Community:

Innovation is a hallmark at Rutgers. Our faculty, students, and alumni have been responsible for truly life-changing ideas and breakthroughs for more than 250 years. Exploring big ideas is fundamental to Rutgers' culture, and part of why we are a national research powerhouse.

As we continue the America Converges Here initiative, we want to celebrate the big ideas that start here. Please enjoy this month’s video where we will meet…

• A School of Engineering professor and student who have discovered a novel way to make a material that is 100 times stronger than steel and may revolutionize how we approach industrial, chemical and medical processes in a wide range of industries;
• The President and CEO of Moretrench, an industrial construction company putting Rutgers' revolutionary policy research to work for the betterment of its workforce;
• And student entrepreneurs with a new app to enhance campus safety here and, soon, at campuses around the country.

In addition, the Chancellor’s Office has co-sponsored several events throughout the semester that celebrate convergence at Rutgers, including:

March 9 – With the School of Management and Labor Relations, "Lessons in Women's Leadership: A conversation with veteran Wall Street Journal editor Joann S. Lublin", author of "Earning It: Hard-Won Lessons from Trailblazing Women at the Top of the Business World".

March 28 – With the School of Environmental and Biological Sciences, "Can We Feed 9 Billion People Sustainably?", a lecture by Michigan State University Professor Mike Hamm.

April 13 – With the Eagleton Institute of Politics, "MARCH: A Book Talk with Congressman John Lewis, Andrew Aydin, and Nate Powell." The authors will discuss MARCH, the National Book Award-winning graphic novel trilogy depicting Congressman Lewis's life as a central figure in the civil rights movement, including the Nashville sit-ins, the Freedom Rides, the 1963 March on Washington, the Mississippi Freedom Summer, and the 1965 marches in Selma, Alabama that led to the Voting Rights Act. Registration is required.
