Chancellor-Provost Awards for Faculty Excellence: Call for Nominations

January 23, 2023

Dear Colleagues:

Our Rutgers–New Brunswick faculty continually demonstrate excellence in their contributions to teaching, scholarly inquiry, and service.

I am pleased to announce that my office is accepting nominations for the 2022-2023 Chancellor-Provost Awards for Faculty Excellence, which celebrate the ways our faculty meet the needs of our students, communities, and the world. This year, to reflect the priorities of our Academic Master Plan, we have added two new awards for Excellence in Community-Engaged Scholarship and Excellence in Mentoring.

The deadline for nominations, as outlined below, is Wednesday, March 1. We will come together in May to celebrate the exceptional faculty who have distinguished themselves in these areas.

We invite nominations for the following awards:

Teaching Awards:

  • Chancellor-Provost Award for Excellence in Teaching: This award honors a faculty member (Professor or Distinguished Professor, tenure-track or non-tenure-track) whose teaching contributions resulted in an extraordinary impact on the institution, students’ experiences, and public engagement.
  • Chancellor-Provost Award for Excellence in Teaching Innovations: This award honors a faculty member (Assistant or Associate Professor, tenure-track or non-tenure-track) whose teaching practices involve innovative approaches to enhance learning outcomes, new forms of pedagogy, experiential practices, instructional technologies, or innovative multimedia.
  • Chancellor-Provost Award for Excellence in Teaching by a Part-Time Lecturer: This award celebrates the valuable contributions of a part-time faculty member to the university’s teaching mission.

Scholarly Inquiry Awards:

  • Chancellor-Provost Award for Pioneering Scholarship: This award honors a faculty member (Professor or Distinguished Professor, tenure-track) whose scholarly contributions have transformed the field, including highly cited research, practiced patents, and/or artistic accomplishments.
  • Chancellor-Provost Award for Excellence in Cross-Disciplinary Scholarship: This award honors a faculty member (Assistant or Associate Professor, tenure-track or non-tenure track) whose scholarly area disrupts or transforms the interface of two disparate fields of research, inquiry, or artistic expression.
  • Chancellor-Provost Award for Excellence in Community-Engaged Scholarship: This award honors a faculty member (all ranks, tenure-track or non-tenure-track) whose scholarship integrates community engagement as a vital component of their research, inquiry, or artistic expression. This work centers community collaboration, benefits the external community, has significant public and scholarly impact, is disseminated through both traditional and non-traditional outlets, and reflects the mission of Rutgers–New Brunswick.

Service Awards:

  • Chancellor-Provost Award for Excellence in Service: This award honors a faculty member (all ranks, tenure-track or non-tenure track) whose outstanding service to their school or the campus advances the university’s mission to perform public service to support the needs of the greater Rutgers–New Brunswick community or residents of the state.
  • Chancellor-Provost Award for Excellence in Mentoring: This award honors a faculty member (Associate Professor, Professor, or Distinguished Professor, tenure-track or non-tenure-track) for their exceptional contributions toward mentoring post-doctoral researchers or early or mid-career faculty and advancing the next generation of scholars.

Impact awards:

  • Chancellor-Provost Award for Excellence in STEM Diversity: This award honors a faculty member (Assistant or Associate Professor, tenure-track or non-tenure-track) whose work aims to increase diversity and inclusion in STEM fields through innovative approaches in pedagogy and teaching practices; research, inquiry, or artistic expression; and community engagement.
  • Chancellor-Provost Award for Global Impact: This award honors a faculty member (all ranks, tenure-track or non-tenure-track) whose scholarship, teaching, or service has catalyzed global partnerships or generated global impacts and exceptional public engagement.

Award recipients will be honored at a Celebration of Faculty Excellence in April and will each receive an institutional award of $5,000.

The deadline for nominations is Wednesday, March 1, 2023.

  • Deans, department chairs, and colleagues are invited to submit nominations.
  • Each nomination must include a 300-word summary of the individual’s qualifications and up to three letters of support.
  • A committee of senior faculty members will review nominations and make recommendations to the Chancellor-Provost.

Please submit all nominations and supporting materials to nbfacultyaffairs@echo.rutgers.edu by the deadline. More information can be found on the Chancellor-Provost Awards for Faculty Excellence website.

It is a privilege to honor and celebrate outstanding faculty members who engage in pioneering scholarship, innovative teaching, and impactful service—inspiring the next generation of citizens and extending the institution’s mission to serve the public good. Thank you for all you do for Rutgers–New Brunswick.

Sincerely,

Francine Conway, Ph.D.
Chancellor-Provost, Rutgers University–New Brunswick
