Rutgers–New Brunswick’s Mega Job Fair Blooms a Bit Earlier This Year

Rutgers University–New Brunswick’s job fair, among the largest and most diverse recruiting efforts in the nation, is getting a head start this year.

Shifting from a spring event, the Winter Career and Internship Mega Fair returns to Livingston Campus for two days. The fair is set from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 1, and Friday, Feb. 2, at Jersey Mike's Arena, 83 Rockafeller Road, Piscataway.

The event is open to Rutgers students and alumni from all academic disciplines and locations (New Brunswick, Camden, Newark and Rutgers Health). There will be about 150 booths each day featuring a different pool of employers.

Representatives from about 300 employers will be available to network with 4,000 expected candidates over two days to discuss full-time, part-time and internship opportunities in various fields, said Lisa Goddard, senior assistant director of career and internship fair management at the Office of Career Exploration and Success (CES), which is organizing the event.

“With nearly 50,000 undergraduate and graduate students and nearly 450,000 proud Scarlet alumni, Rutgers will be a top destination for employers to recruit the most talented and diverse candidates,” said Michelle St. George, director of industry and student connections at CES.

Last year’s Fall Career and Internship Mega Fair drew more than 8,200 attendees, said Kait Weiss, the office’s associate director of strategic outreach. Employers participating in the fair include Johnson & Johnson, Automatic Data Processing Inc., Beacon Building Products, FDM Group (Holdings) PLC, Geico, Liberty Coca-Cola Beverages LLC, L3Harris Technologies Inc., OneMain Financial, Saint Peter’s Healthcare System, Sherwin-Williams Co., Target Corp. and Verizon Communications Inc. 

Rutgers–New Brunswick students and alumni may register by logging into their Rutgers Handshake account. Registration via Handshake is preferred, but not required. Walk-ins are welcome.  

For students and alumni of Rutgers–Camden, Rutgers–Newark and Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences, registration isn’t required and walk-ins are welcome.  

In addition to the Mega Fair, the Office of Career Exploration and Success will provide three virtual career and internship fairs. Actively recruiting employers will be available online to network with candidates to discuss employment and internship opportunities, including in-person, virtual or hybrid roles.  

The virtual fairs, set from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m., are open to all Rutgers–New Brunswick students and alumni. Here is the schedule: 

  • Feb. 9 – Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM)  

  • Feb. 16 – Communications, Marketing, Visual Arts and Public Relations  

  • March 1 – Management, Operations, Human Resources and Sales 

Weiss added that candidates will have the opportunity to take a headshot in one two self-service photography studios available “to take their candidacy and digital brand to the next level.”

Students who wish to get their photo ahead of time may schedule an appointment through their Rutgers Handshake account. 

CES also provides a fair-preparation workshop and drop-in resume clinics, both in-person and virtual: 

  • Jan. 25 – How to Prep for a Career Fair (virtual) 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. 

  • Jan. 26 – Resume Clinic (virtual) 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. 

  • Jan. 30 – Resume Clinic (in-person) 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at The Cove in the Busch Student Center 

  • Jan. 30 – Resume Clinic (virtual) 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. 

Students may earn a #MegaFastPass, a digital pass in their Rutgers Handshake account that enables them to skip the registration line at the fair. The pass also grants students early admittance to each day of the fair at 11 a.m.
