New Brunswick Chancellor and Provost Awards for Faculty Excellence

February 17, 2021

Dear Colleagues:

The 2020-2021 academic year is a testimony to our faculty’s strength and resilience as we work together to ensure the continuity of academic excellence in teaching, scholarship, and service. You have given to our community selflessly, and we all benefit from your creativity and innovation in transforming instruction, research, and service to meet the needs of our students and the communities we serve.

Amidst the unending demands, it is essential to pause and acknowledge your contributions. I am pleased to announce that the New Brunswick Chancellor’s and Provost’s offices will accept nominations for a series of awards designed to recognize and highlight our faculty’s excellence. We especially want to recognize faculty who have responded to both COVID-19 and racial injustice through innovative teaching, cross-disciplinary research, public engagement, and service. Toward the end of the semester, we will come together to pay tribute to exceptional faculty who have distinguished themselves in areas of teaching, scholarship, and service.

We invite nominations for the following Chancellor and Provost Awards for Faculty Excellence:

  • The Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Teaching: The award honors a faculty member (Professor or Distinguished Professor, tenure-track or non-tenure track) whose teaching contributions resulted in an extraordinary impact on the institution, students’ experiences, and public engagement.
  • Chancellor’s Award for Pioneering Research: The award honors a faculty member (Professor or Distinguished Professor, tenure-track) whose research contributions have transformed the field, including highly cited scholarship or practiced patents.
  • Chancellor’s Award for Global Impact: The award honors a faculty member (all ranks) whose research, teaching, or service has catalyzed global partnerships or generated global impacts and exceptional public engagement.
  • Provost’s Award for Excellence in Cross-disciplinary Research: The award honors a faculty member (Assistant or Associate Professor, tenure-track or non-tenure track) whose research area disrupts or transforms the interface of two disparate fields of scholarship or inquiry.
  • Provost’s Award for Excellence in Teaching Innovations: An award extended to a faculty member (Assistant or Associate Professor, tenure-track or non-tenure track) whose teaching practices involve innovative approaches to enhance learning outcomes, new forms of pedagogy, instructional technologies, or innovative multimedia.
  • Provost’s Award for Excellence in STEM Diversity: The award honors a faculty member (Assistant or Associate Professor, tenure-track or non-tenure track) whose work aims to increase diversity and inclusion in STEM fields through innovative approaches in pedagogy and teaching practices, research, and community engagement.
  • Provost’s Award for Excellence in Service: The award honors a faculty member (all ranks) whose outstanding service to the school or the campus advances the university’s mission to perform public service to support the needs of the greater Rutgers–New Brunswick community or residents of the state.

Award recipients will be honored at a Celebration of Faculty Excellence toward the end of the Spring 2021 semester. Also, each honoree will receive an institutional award of $5,000.

  • The deadline for nominations is Monday, March 1, 2021.
  • Deans, department chairs, and colleagues are invited to submit nominations.
  • Each nomination must include a 300-word summary of the individual’s qualifications and up to three letters of support.
  • A committee of senior faculty members will review nominations and make recommendations to the Provost and Chancellor.

Please submit your nomination here.

It is a privilege to honor and celebrate outstanding faculty members who engage in pioneering research, innovative teaching, and impactful service—inspiring the next generation of citizens and extending the institution’s mission to serve the public good. Thank you for all you do for Rutgers–New Brunswick.

Sincerely,

Christopher J. Molloy, Ph.D.
Chancellor, Rutgers University–New Brunswick

Francine Conway, Ph.D.
Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs
