Until recently, very few people knew about Rokhl Auerbach, a journalist, literary critic, and memoirist who survived the Holocaust and then dedicated her life to preserving the memories of its victims. Renowned scholar Samuel D. Kassow (Trinity College) will discuss Auerbach’s remarkable memoir Warsaw Testament, which paints a vivid portrait of the city’s prewar Yiddish literary and artistic community and its destruction at the hands of the Nazis. Professor Kassow’s new translation of the work received a National Jewish Book Award in the category of Holocaust Memoir in January 2025.

A dessert reception will follow the talk. The event is free and open to the public.
