Are we alone? How did we get here?
These are core questions in the science of Astrobiology – the study of the origins of life on our planet and the search for life beyond Earth. Figuring out how life developed on our planet will be key to discovering if or how life could have formed on other planets. This is the challenge for the interdisciplinary, collaborative ENIGMA project.
The ENIGMA team’s idea is that if we can figure out how proteins evolved to create life on earth, then we can search for these protein ‘biosignatures’ in the minerals that make up other planets.
