Message from the Chancellor Regarding Off Campus Bias Incident
November 22, 2019
Dear Members of the Rutgers–New Brunswick Community:
We are aware of the reported involvement of a Rutgers–New Brunswick student in a bias incident that occurred last Saturday at Syracuse University.
I want to reassure you of Rutgers' commitment to fostering an environment in which people of all backgrounds are treated with respect, dignity and kindness. We strongly condemn the use of racist and other hateful language and behavior as antithetical to our core values. To this end, we are working with Syracuse officials to gather more information and investigate this incident to determine whether the student violated Rutgers' Code of Student conduct, which applies to those both on and off campus.
We stand united in our efforts to combat bigotry and intolerance and to nurture a community where all of our members feel valued and respected.
Sincerely,
Christopher J. Molloy, Ph.D.
Chancellor, Rutgers University–New Brunswick
