United for Justice

May 29, 2020

Dear Members of the Rutgers–New Brunswick and RBHS Communities:

Like many of you, we have watched in horror the video of George Floyd's death at the hands of police officers in Minneapolis. What happened to Mr. Floyd is reprehensible and disturbing. But it is only the most recent example of the social injustice that still plagues our nation and leaves fellow Americans vulnerable to targeted attacks and systemic racism.

While we may be separated from Minnesota geographically, this incident of violence touches us all and underscores the fundamental importance of the Rutgers’ vision for a world where we are all treated fairly and justly. We must not let ourselves become immune to the injustice we witnessed this week or come to the point when we let these acts of violence go unacknowledged.

At a time when we should be coming together with kindness and concern for one another in the face of this global pandemic, our country became darker this week.

Finally, please remember that the university offers counseling services to help our community at times like this, despite our physical distance. If you are a student, please contact our CAPS program or UBHC for support. Faculty and staff are invited to contact the Rutgers Faculty and Staff Assistance Program (FSAP).

Sincerely,

Christopher J. Molloy, Ph.D.
Chancellor, Rutgers University–New Brunswick

Brian L. Strom, MD, MPH
Executive Vice President for Health Affairs, Rutgers University
Chancellor, Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences
