Response to DACA Supreme Court Decision

June 19, 2020

Dear Members of the Rutgers–New Brunswick and RBHS Communities:

Yesterday, the U.S. Supreme Court issued a decision that blocks the Trump administration’s attempt to rescind the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program. This decision is welcome news to our university community and an especially anticipated relief for our DACA students.

We will continue to monitor the effects of this decision in the weeks and months to come, but today, we celebrate this ruling and reaffirm our continued commitment to supporting our undocumented Rutgers students. As President Barchi mentioned in his message to the Rutgers community yesterday, our privacy practices, admissions policies, and support remains unwavering.

Rutgers offers all current and incoming students a place to call home and opportunities to dream and build a better future. Though the obstacles undocumented students face in pursuit of their education are unique, we rise to answer these challenges and provide guidance in support of our students' success from the very beginning of the admissions process through to graduation. Our Dean of Students and Rutgers Immigrant Community Assistance Project provide resources and counsel for students in need of these services.

We are proud of our diverse community at Rutgers and we will continue to advocate for students of all backgrounds as we work to create a more inclusive and welcoming campus community.

Sincerely,

Christopher J. Molloy, Ph.D.
Chancellor, Rutgers University–New Brunswick

Brian L. Strom, MD, MPH
Chancellor, Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences
Executive Vice President for Health Affairs, Rutgers University
