Much to Look Forward to As We Start Anew
September 6, 2018
Dear Rutgers–New Brunswick Colleagues:
Welcome to a new school year! For me, it is my first as Interim Chancellor, though I have been part of this university community since I arrived as a first-year student in 1972. Most important in these early days is getting to know all of you better so that I can understand our collective aspirations for this great institution. In this first year, you should expect stability and progress.
As I mentioned, Rutgers has been a central part of my life. I am a two-time Rutgers graduate, and have been serving the institution for more than a decade as a faculty member, dean, administrator, and now, Interim Chancellor. I am familiar with Rutgers' enduring culture of diversity and entrepreneurship, and I will leverage those attributes as we make progress on the key goals in our strategic plan. I also plan to continue many of the good initiatives begun by my predecessor, former Chancellor Deba Dutta, and believe wholeheartedly in our responsibility to contribute to the public good through our land-grant mission.
Rutgers—New Brunswick is a place of big ideas, boundless energy, and unlimited potential. We can realize that potential by transforming the student experience, creating new opportunities for online learning, and positioning the university as an incubator for entrepreneurship for the Rutgers community and beyond. Those are just a few examples of how we can build upon our ambitions. Many more will develop as we begin to work together.
I am humbled by the opportunity to lead this great institution, which has been a part of my life for 46 years. We have much to do, and much to celebrate.
I look forward to seeing you throughout the year.
Sincerely,
Christopher J. Molloy, Ph.D.
Interim Chancellor, Rutgers University–New Brunswick
