You're Invited: Robeson Returns to the Banks
April 5, 2019
Dear Members of the Rutgers University–New Brunswick Community:
On April 12, the university will dedicate the Paul Robeson Plaza on Voorhees Mall. This prominent open space will sit within the heart of our university and will be a physical monument to an alumnus whose life's achievements are central to the story of Rutgers. I ask that we join as a community at 3 p.m. on April 12 to honor Robeson with performances, readings, and remembrances that reflect upon him and his contributions to our university—and the world. I want to express my sincere gratitude to the Class of 1971 and the Rutgers African American Alumni Alliance for their dedicated fundraising efforts for the plaza.
The dedication is part of the Robeson Centennial, our yearlong recognition of Robeson's legacy as a scholar, athlete, actor, singer, and global activist. As we mark 100 years since his graduation in 1919, there are many opportunities for you to learn and experience more about Robeson, including exhibitions at the Alexander Library and the Zimmerli Art Museum.
I look forward to seeing you on April 12, as we unveil on our campus a permanent tribute to an alum who has left a lasting legacy.
Sincerely,
Chancellor Christopher Molloy
