Mason Gross Announcement
June 4, 2019
Dear Colleagues:
I am pleased to announce that I have appointed Professor Gerald Beegan, Chair of the Department of Art and Design at Mason Gross School of the Arts, as Interim Dean effective July 1.
A design historian with a focus on print media and its audiences from the 1890s to the present, Professor Beegan has been part of Mason Gross for more than 19 years. Prior to becoming Department Chair, Professor Beegan served Mason Gross as Undergraduate Director and Associate Chair of the Department of Art and Design. In these academic leadership roles, he has led significant initiatives to expand the department's experimental and collaborative traditions, gain the department's National Association of Schools and Art Design (NASAD) accreditation, introduce a new graduate fellowship program, spearhead a new strategic plan, and launch a Design MFA. The MFA in Visual Arts was recently ranked by U.S. News and World Report in the top 10 of fine arts graduate programs.
Please join me in welcoming Professor Beegan to this interim role and in thanking Dean George Stauffer for his significant service and contributions during the last 19 years as Dean of Mason Gross as he returns to the faculty. As shared previously, we have launched a national search for a permanent Mason Gross Dean chaired by SAS Executive Dean Peter March.
Sincerely,
Christopher J. Molloy, Ph.D.
Chancellor, Rutgers University–New Brunswick
