Limited Submission Opportunities

Rutgers–New Brunswick Chancellor-Led Unit (CLU) Lead: Dr. Sheila Borges Rajguru, nb-lso@echo.rutgers.edu

If you are interested in applying for a New Brunswick CLU Limited Submission Opportunity (LSO), you must complete the Intent to Submit Form.

Limited Submissions are funding opportunities where the sponsor has a limited number of applications accepted from one institution or organization. There are two types of LSOs:

  1. University-wide, overseen by the Rutgers University Office for Research
  2. Per Chancellor-led unit (CLU), overseen by the Rutgers–New Brunswick Office for Research.

Guidelines

Step 1: Check the listing

  • The Rutgers University Office for Research posts all LSOs on InfoReady with sponsor deadlines.
  • Faculty and staff are notified when new LSOs become available.
  • If an LSO is not listed, please email the CLU Lead.

Step 2: Indicate your interest

  • For New Brunswick CLU LSOs, complete the Limited Submission Opportunity Intent to Submit Form
  • This alerts the CLU lead of your intent to apply.

Step 3: Obtain dean approval

  • The CLU lead will inform the appropriate research dean.
  • Approval is required to move forward.

Step 4: Internal review

  • Internal deadlines for LSOs are set 8 weeks prior to the sponsor deadline when sponsor timelines allow. In cases where sponsors release opportunities with fewer than 8 weeks’ notice, internal deadlines will be adjusted accordingly.
  • Before the internal deadline:
    • If there are more applicants than spaces available, the New Brunswick office and research dean will hold an internal competition.
  • After the internal deadline:
    • Applications are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.
    • The New Brunswick office and research dean will keep a timestamped waitlist based on your form submission date.

Note: Approval from the school dean and/or research dean is required.

Step 5: Selection and final submission

  • The New Brunswick CLU lead notifies the selected Principal Investigators (PI).
  • PI works with the school’s research dean and grants/business office to submit.
  • The dean and research dean will be included in this correspondence, regardless of whether the selection process follows the internal review competition or operates on a first-come, first-served basis.
