Emergency Info
Our Public Safety group – police, fire, emergency services – responds to calls around the clock, every day of the year.
The Rutgers University Police Department (RUPD) is a fully accredited law enforcement agency serving all Rutgers–New Brunswick campuses. Officers patrol by car, bike, and on foot. RUPD officers are always nearby and ready to help. RUPD can be reached at 732-932-7211.
In an Emergency (police, fire, medical):
Call 911 when you can, text 911 when you can't.
From a university phone:
Dial 911.
For immediate support during mental or emotional distress:
Call 848-932-7884 and follow the prompts or call/text 988 to connect with help right away.
Non-Emergency
While some situations may not seem urgent, they are still important. If something feels off or out of place, report it. Our officers are happy to respond.

Staying Connected After-Hours
Even late at night, support is always within reach. Services like the Knight Mover, walking escorts, and a mobile safety app give you direct access to help when you need it.
The Knight Mover Shuttle
When campus buses stop running for the evening, the Knight Mover provides late-night transportation within and between Rutgers–New Brunswick campuses. It is available to all students, faculty, and staff. Call 732-932-7433 to request a ride.
Walking Escorts
If you'd rather not walk alone, RUPD offers escorts to students, faculty, and staff upon request. Escorts will walk with you to your residence, vehicle, or a campus transit stop. Call 732-932-7211 to request a walking escort.

Rave Guardian is a free mobile app that gives students, faculty, staff, and guests quick access to campus safety resources and direct ways to connect with help when it matters most.
