Rescheduling Exams Disrupted by Canvas Outage

May 8, 2026

Dear Students, Faculty, and Staff,

I am writing to share information about the revised final exam schedule in the hopes that Canvas will be restored by sometime tomorrow. Please be on the lookout for updates from OIT regarding Canvas access.

I fully understand the stress and anxiety caused by this disruption and the ongoing uncertainty. I want to express my gratitude for your patience and flexibility and also emphasize that we must extend grace and be as accommodating as possible in light of these unanticipated changes and the ways in which they will impact members of our community differently.

  • The revised schedule shifts all exams postponed today (Friday) to the same time on Sunday, May 10.
  • Please visit https://scheduling.rutgers.edu/final-exams/ to see the full updated exam schedule.
  • Instructors will be notified directly of any updated room assignments, which they will share with their students.

Among those accommodations that may need to be taken into account are those for religious observation. For students who have made testing arrangements with the Office of Disability Services, there is no need to submit a new request. Your exam will be rescheduled in accordance with these revisions, and you will receive confirmation with the new exam time.

Finally, I want to call your attention to resources that may be helpful to students and faculty. Faculty can find information on using alternatives to Canvas at this link: https://canvas.rutgers.edu/news/keep-teaching-without-canvas/. In addition to the dedicated professionals within schools, faculty can look to my office for support, in particular Senior Vice Provost and Vice Chancellor for Undergraduate Education, Carolyn Moehling. Students are reminded of the many resources offered by the Learning Centers and the support provided by the Dean of Students — Advocacy, Outreach and Support. In addition, CAPS continues to be available to students as a mental health resource.

Thank you in advance for your cooperation and understanding. I am confident that we will come together as a campus and support one another through this challenging experience.

Sincerely,

Jason Geary, Ph.D.
Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs
