Mega Fair Is Back at Rutgers–New Brunswick, and It’s Bigger Than Ever
The event, which has expanded to four days and features more than 400 employers, is set from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Sept. 19-Sept. 22 at Jersey Mike's Arena
The Fall Career and Internship Mega Fair at Rutgers University–New Brunswick, returns to Livingston Campus as an expanded, four-day event.
The fair is set from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 19, through Friday, Sept. 22, at Jersey Mike's Arena, 83 Rockafeller Road, Piscataway, N.J.
“Unlike the two-day fall Mega Fair event in 2022, where we had to redirect some employers to our virtual fairs due to capacity constraints, this year's expanded format ensures a smoother experience for all attendees,” said Lisa Goddard, senior assistant director of career and internship fair management.
The fair is open to students and alumni from all disciplines throughout Rutgers University (including Rutgers–New Brunswick, Rutgers–Camden, Rutgers–Newark and Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences).
“The fall is prime recruiting season for many employers, and that is why our fair is by far one of the largest recruiting events this year,” said Michelle St. George, interim director of industry and student connections at the Rutgers Office of Career Exploration and Success. “Organizations are identifying top talent earlier each year. Our students are diverse, experienced, hardworking and academically talented, and we strive to provide employers a great recruitment experience at Rutgers.”
More than 400 employers are slated to meet with candidates and discuss full-time, part-time and internship opportunities, said Kait Weiss, associate director of strategic outreach.
Employers participating in this year’s fall fair include Johnson & Johnson, L3Harris Technologies, Verizon Communications, FirstEnergy, Beacon Building Products, Lockheed Martin, UBS Group and SHI International, among others.
Last year’s fall fair drew more than 6,200 attendees, said Weiss, who added that candidates are encouraged to attend more than one day as each day offers a different lineup of recruiters.
The fair will be segmented by businesses and organizations recruiting for technical roles (science, technology, engineering, computer science and health), nontechnical positions (business, arts, communications and education) and both technical and nontechnical posts.
Registration for the event is now open. A few things to note:
- Rutgers University students may register by logging into their Rutgers Handshake account. Registration via Handshake is preferred, but not required. Walk-ins are welcome.
- For alumni of Rutgers–New Brunswick, they may register by logging in to their Rutgers Handshake account. Registration is preferred, but not required.
- For students and alumni of Rutgers–Camden, Rutgers–Newark and Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences, registration isn’t required and walk-ins are welcome.
Goddard said Janice Lynn Rein, the office’s web solutions implementation specialist, has developed a mobile app for students that will categorize employers based on the career communities they indicated during the registration process and “will be extremely helpful for candidates to explore the variety of employers.”
To get ready for the event, there is a fair-preparation workshop as well as drop-in resume clinics, both in-person and virtual:
- Sept. 13: How to Prepare for a Career and Internship Fair
- Sept. 14: Resume Clinic (virtual)
- Sept. 15: Resume Clinic (virtual)
- Sept. 18: Resume Clinic (in-person)
Weiss said attendance at the Mega Fair and preparatory events will earn students stamps toward the #Rutgersworks Free Tuition Challenge, which begins Monday, Aug. 28.
She added that Rutgers–New Brunswick’s two career photo booths will be at the Mega Fair all four days.
“Candidates will have the opportunity to take headshots at the fair in addition to scheduling appointments at our office,” Weiss said.
In addition to the Mega Fair, the Office of Career Exploration and Success will provide three virtual career and internship fairs:
- Sept. 29: Diversity and Inclusion
- Oct. 6: Master’s and Doctoral Program Students
- Oct. 13: Life Sciences, Health and Medicine
Actively recruiting employers will be available online to network with candidates to discuss full-time, part-time and internship opportunities, including in-person, virtual or hybrid roles. The virtual fairs, scheduled from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m., are open to all Rutgers–New Brunswick students and alumni.
