Welcome to Fall 2022!

August 31, 2022

Dear Scarlet Knights,

The start of a new academic year heralds so many new beginnings: the start of new friendships, the acquisition of new skills, the discovery of new knowledge, and the furtherance of our academic enterprise that helps students chart the course for the rest of their lives.

I am overjoyed to welcome our new and returning students, faculty, and staff to our beloved community on the Banks of the Old Raritan. Rutgers–New Brunswick is a place where diverse ideas and perspectives converge, and where we serve our students, communities, the State of New Jersey, and the world with academic excellence, innovative research, and transformative public service.

To that end I invite all new and returning, undergrad and graduate students to start the Fall 2022 semester with our Welcome Week activities such as the Sept. 2 New Student Convocation, Sept. 5 Involvement Fair, Sept. 9 Graduate Student Welcome, and Sept. 12 Student Success Resource Fair. These events will help you find new communities, resources, and the support you will need to feel at home in our campus community.

I also wish to call your attention to some of the new focuses of the 2022-2023 academic year:

Student Success

Rutgers–New Brunswick is kicking off 2022-23 with 15+ to Finish, a campaign that connects students with the many campus resources that will help them on their academic journey. As its name suggests, 15+ to Finish highlights the value of completing an average of 15 credits or more per semester to minimize costs and achieve on-time graduation. Please visit success.rutgers.edu to learn about our academic, wellness, and career support services, and opportunities for experiential learning and involvement, that will help you build a foundation for success and connection in our campus community.

Health and Safety

Please remember that health and safety are our highest priority and collective responsibility. Since the start of the pandemic, Rutgers has used the best available mitigation strategies, including mandatory vaccination, testing, quarantine, and contact tracing, to protect our campus community. This has allowed us to resume a predominantly in-person class schedule. The university continues to require face coverings in all indoor teaching spaces, libraries, and clinical settings, and to require that all students and employees be fully vaccinated and obtain a booster when eligible. Rutgers students, employees, and the public can turn to coronavirus.rutgers.edu for the university’s latest safety protocols.

I look forward to a joyful, fulfilling, and transformative academic year. As we have time and time again, the Rutgers–New Brunswick community will continue to show the world What Excellence Looks Like.

Sincerely,
Francine Conway, Ph.D.
Chancellor-Provost, Rutgers University–New Brunswick
