Reflecting on the Lives Lost on 9/11

Dear Rutgers University–New Brunswick Community,

Tomorrow, on the 20th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on our nation, please take time to reflect on the lost lives, on the suffering that still endures for surviving loved ones, and on the courage and grace of those who risked their own wellbeing to serve their communities on that terrible day and the ones that followed. 

For many of us, the memory is still fresh, despite the passing of time. For those who were personally touched by the events, including many in our own Rutgers–New Brunswick community, the memory will never fade. In his message today, President Holloway listed the names of the 37 Rutgers alumni who lost their lives in the 9/11 attacks, and that of a first responder from UMDNJ who lost his life to cancer attributed to his service at Ground Zero. As you read these names, please reflect on the tragedy of so many good and promising lives that were lost.

Let us honor those who were lost through our continued commitment to build a better world and a truly beloved community. As always, I welcome hearing from our community. For any who care to share your thoughts or story, you may reach me via this online form.
