Launch of the Division of Access and Community Engagement (ACE)

Dear Members of the Rutgers–New Brunswick Community,

I am pleased to announce the launch of the Division of Access and Community Engagement (ACE) at Rutgers–New Brunswick, under the leadership of Vice Chancellor Tiffiny Butler.

ACE is the product of extensive campuswide planning through the Academic Master Plan and the Carnegie Classification Self-Study, both of which underscored the need for a division that strengthens and supports community-engaged learning experiences and scholarship and that expands partnerships serving the public good. By bringing together programs that support access, community engaged learning, and civic partnership, ACE will help ensure that our collaborations reflect the priorities, strengths, and aspirations of the communities we serve.

In completing our transition from the former Division of Diversity, Inclusion, and Community Engagement that began with Vice Chancellor Butler’s appointment earlier this year, ACE will focus on access and community engagement while DICE’s faculty-facing programming will move to the Center for Faculty Success.

Over the past several months, campus leaders have participated in listening sessions and workshops to help shape ACE, highlighting the need for stronger alignment, transparency, and infrastructure in support of student success and community engagement. ACE was designed with these insights at its foundation.

ACE will serve as Rutgers–New Brunswick’s hub for:

  • Access and student success pathways
  • Community-engaged learning experiences and engagement infrastructure
  • Civic and community partnerships
  • Pre-college and transition programs

This spring, ACE will offer additional opportunities to share community priorities and shape new collaborative initiatives. We look forward to introducing you to ACE through a series of workshops this spring as we continue strengthening access, opportunity, and reciprocal community engagement.
