Introducing Our New Provost, Saundra Tomlinson-Clarke

July 6, 2023

Dear Rutgers–New Brunswick Community,

On July 1, I became Chancellor of Rutgers University–New Brunswick after serving two years as Chancellor-Provost. As President Holloway recently announced, this change allows for academic leadership better suited to support a diverse top 20 public university—and one that reflects our Big Ten peers and the leadership structures of Rutgers’ other chancellor-led units.

Today I am proud to announce my appointment of Saundra Tomlinson-Clarke as Rutgers–New Brunswick’s new Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs. Dr. Tomlinson-Clarke currently serves as Senior Vice Provost for Academic and Faculty Affairs and has been a member of my leadership team since I became Chancellor-Provost on July 1, 2021. She is a licensed psychologist recognized for her scholarship by the American Psychological Association, where she is an APA Fellow. Dr. Tomlinson-Clarke has served Rutgers University for over three decades and is a Professor in the Department of Educational Psychology at the Graduate School of Education. Her experience brings continuity and an appreciation for the importance of the faculty’s contributions to the excellence of our institution.

As Provost, she will continue to be responsible for supporting the Office of the Chancellor in all areas related to academic and faculty affairs and oversee the Office of the Provost.

With my direct knowledge of her professionalism, character, and commitment to our institution and ideals, I have great confidence that Provost Tomlinson-Clarke will help us lead Rutgers–New Brunswick to ever greater levels of success in serving the public good through excellence in education, research, and service.

Please join me in congratulating our new Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs.

Sincerely,

Francine Conway, Ph.D.
Chancellor and Distinguished Professor
