Announcing Joshua Langberg as Incoming Dean of GSAPP

June 4, 2026

Dear Colleagues,

I am delighted to announce the appointment of Dr. Joshua Langberg as Dean of the Graduate School of Applied and Professional Psychology (GSAPP), effective July 1, 2026.

A nationally recognized clinical psychologist and researcher, Dr. Langberg is an expert in adolescent mental health and attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). His research focuses on improving academic, behavioral, and mental health outcomes for youth and young adults and on expanding access to evidence-based interventions in schools, colleges, and community settings. He has authored more than 150 peer-reviewed publications and three books, and his research program has been continuously federally funded throughout his career by agencies including the National Institutes of Health and the U.S. Department of Education. His work has helped shape evidence-based approaches to supporting young people with behavioral health challenges, and he currently serves as Editor-in-Chief of Research on Child and Adolescent Psychopathology.

Prior to joining Rutgers, Dr. Langberg held several academic and administrative leadership roles at Virginia Commonwealth University, including Associate Dean for Research and Operations and Associate Dean for Research and Graduate Studies in the College of Humanities and Sciences. Throughout his career, he has demonstrated a deep commitment to translating research into practice, supporting the success of faculty, staff, and students, and building partnerships that improve outcomes for individuals, families, and communities.

A member of the GSAPP faculty since 2022, Dr. Langberg is the inaugural Director of the Center for Youth Social Emotional Wellness (CYSEW) and a key partner of the Brandt Behavioral Health Center and the Blau Wellness Center. As the university’s inaugural Chief Wellness Officer, he has developed and advanced an institution-wide approach to wellness—including leading the implementation of the ScarletWell Initiative—that supports our students, faculty, and staff and strengthens Rutgers–New Brunswick’s commitment to a healthy and thriving community. In these roles, Dr. Langberg has distinguished himself as an innovative scholar, a collaborative leader, and a passionate advocate for mental health and well-being.  He has worked with members of our community to foster a culture of care, collaboration, and innovation across Rutgers–New Brunswick while strengthening partnerships and programs that improve lives on campus and in the New Jersey communities we serve. He brings to the deanship a deep understanding of the school’s strengths, mission, and opportunities for future growth.

His commitment to interdisciplinary collaboration, community engagement and public impact, and student success reflects the values that have long distinguished GSAPP—home to a clinical psychology program ranked among the nation’s top 25 by U.S. News & World Report—and will help position the school to address the evolving behavioral health needs of New Jersey and beyond. As a distinguished scholar, accomplished administrator, and dedicated clinician, Dr. Langberg is exceptionally well-positioned to lead GSAPP into its next chapter and to build on its longstanding tradition of excellence in education, research, clinical service, and community engagement. We are fortunate to have him.

I would also like to express my sincere gratitude to Interim Dean Daniel Hart for his leadership and service to GSAPP during this period of transition. His commitment to the school and its students, faculty, staff, alumni, and community partners has been invaluable.

Please join me in welcoming Dean Langberg and in thanking Dean Hart for his distinguished service.

Sincerely,

Francine Conway, Ph.D.
Chancellor and Distinguished Professor
