Alberto Cuitiño: Permanent Dean, School of Engineering

Dear Rutgers–New Brunswick Community,

I am happy to announce that I have appointed Alberto Cuitiño as permanent Dean of the School of Engineering. Please join me in congratulating him on this well-deserved appointment, which follows his exemplary service since June 2022 as Interim Dean.

During the past eight months, Dean Cuitiño has made significant strides in furthering the School of Engineering’s position as a leading nationally ranked academic program. Most notably, the school welcomed the largest first-year engineering class in its history; initiated several full-time faculty searches that resulted in several talented and diverse hires; continued to secure funded research in today’s most innovative fields of study; and identified and advanced strategic initiatives including the establishment of a translational program on pharmaceutical manufacturing and professional and executive master’s degree programs in engineering. As a champion of both the school and Rutgers, Dean Cuitiño has also reinvigorated the school’s relationship with alumni and donors and imagined new ways that supporters can impact students.

Dr. Cuitiño previously served as professor and chair of the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering. As chair, he led that department to add several new full-time faculty members, establish a bachelor’s degree in aerospace engineering along with a Master of Engineering degree and international 3+2 and 4+1 programs, and develop graduate certificates in advanced manufacturing, robotics and automation, space, additive manufacturing, and business innovation. He served as the Rutgers site leader in establishing the National Science Foundation (NSF) Engineering Research Center for Structured Organic Particulate Systems (ERC-SOPS).

A Fellow of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, Dr. Cuitiño joined the School of Engineering in 1993. As dean, he will continue to serve as professor of mechanical and aerospace engineering.

Dean Cuitiño has been an invaluable partner and leader, and I am grateful for his dedication to our mission of excellence in education, research, and service.
