Frequently Asked Questions

  • After you enter your shipping address on the myRutgers dashboard, SHI International will ship your iPad. SHI is working as quickly as possible to process the iPad orders. We expect all units will ship before September 8. Once your iPad is on its way, you will receive a shipping notification with tracking information.

  • In addition to an Apple iPad Air 256GB, you will also receive a protective case, a carrying bag, two years of Apple Care+, and information on optional discounted accessories from the Rutgers Tech Store, kite+key.

  • The iPad is yours to keep when you graduate or transfer out of Rutgers. With a Rutgers-managed device, all resources and recommended apps are automatically pushed to your iPad to assist with college life. The Rutgers management profile cannot be removed unless you are no longer associated with the university.

  • You must enter your shipping information on your myRutgers dashboard by September 7 in order to receive an iPad through this program.

  • Rutgers cannot access your camera, personal files, emails, or settings, and cannot track internet usage, browser history, or bookmarks. With a managed device, Rutgers can push applications, notifications, and settings to your iPad; see titles of installed apps; publish a custom app library; and—if you lose your iPad—Rutgers can locate, lock, or erase your device.

  • No. There is no charge for the iPad and it is not funded by tuition fees.

  • Your device comes with two years of Apple Care+. Apple can be contacted 24/7 at 800-275-2273 to assist with basic technical issues or warranty repairs. You can also obtain service at an Apple retail store or the Rutgers Tech Store, kite+key.

    The Rutgers Help Desk can be contacted at 833-OIT-HELP (648-4357) for assistance with the setup process or connecting to Rutgers resources.

  • The iPad is your property and any damage to or the loss of the device is your responsibility. Two years of Apple Care+ is included with the iPad which covers two (2) incidents of accidental damage. Each incident carries a service fee of $49. Loss and theft are not covered under AppleCare+.

  • You are not required to use your iPad for class. This device is an additional tool to help you connect to the Scarlet Knight community and to support your learning.

  • Rutgers offers a list of computer recommendations for students, as well as technical specifications and information on available software. Make sure you have a device that can handle everything you'll need it to do. Check with your school or department for any specific technology requirements.

  • If you do not enter your shipping information on your myRutgers dashboard by September 7, you will not receive an iPad through this program.

  • Yes. Please call the Rutgers Help Desk at 833-OIT-HELP (648-4357) for assistance.

  • iPads reported as lost or missing can be locked by Rutgers University. If you believe your device was locked in error, contact the Help Desk at 833-OIT-HELP (648-4357) for immediate assistance.

    Students can request to have their iPad set to lost mode if their device is lost or stolen by contacting the Help Desk.

  • Your device has been identified as lost. Contact the Help Desk at 833-OIT-HELP (648-4357) if you believe you device was locked in error.

  • If you no longer wish to keep your iPad, a shipping label and packing materials can be provided to you at no cost. If you are returning an iPad to Rutgers, contact for instructions. Pack the device in the original shipping box if available.

    Before shipping the device back, you may want to reset it to factory defaults to remove user content by following these steps:

    1. Sign out of iCloud. Tap Settings and then tap your name in the top left menu. Tap Sign Out in the account window and enter your Apple ID password in the next screen. The iPad will then ask you to Keep a copy of your data on this iPad. Change nothing on this page and tap Sign Out. The iPad will ask if you’re sure if you want to sign out. Tap Sign Out.
    2. Reset the iPad. Tap Settings and then General. Tap Reset at the bottom of the General menu just above Restart then tap Erase all Contents and Settings. Enter your iPad passcode in the next window then tap Erase and confirm. Tap Erase to start the process. Your iPad is ready to ship back.
